Emu with a Clue

In the land of the dinosaurs

As with any new job, people are always going to try and get you to do things they don't want to, because they suspect you don't know any better - so they'll sneak it in. I would stand your ground, postponed the meeting until your senior manager is back and then invite her into the meeting to clarify your duties.
Thanks. Managed to avoid having the meeting yesterday afternoon. (Was actually busy doing what I was supposed to be doing). Think there is another manager there who will go into bat for me if needed as I am already doing some meaningful work that helps him and has been identified as extremely high priority. I have a pretty good sense of what I am supposed to be doing and it actually adds a lot more value to this particular work area than the kind of thing that this other guy has in mind (which anyone could do). Probably doesn't help that I look a lot younger than my actual age and these guys not used to dealing with anyone who is not an engineer. (The fact that I have a masters degree and 15+ years experience in my line of work doesn't seem to register with them).
